Have you ever joined a yoga class and wondered why you couldn't bend or move the same way as the person next to you? Do you often think that you're just not flexible enough? Is your practice directed by “thinking” and not leaving enough room for “feeling” your body? How can you change this?

Is your expectation of how you think you “should” move affecting your enjoyment of your yoga class or other daily activities?

This 2.5 hour workshop will help to answer the questions above and more, introducing you to your body and how unique it is, and helping you forge a much more harmonious and symbiotic relationship with it.

I will walk you through a human body, explaining the basic structure and mechanics of the skeleton and soft tissue, and also delve into how our mindset can lead us to being stuck in anticipation, expectation, comparison, duty, desire, and many other aspects that can result in us disconnecting from our body and even injuring ourselves.

This is a self-paced workshop where you will have the opportunity to test different movements on yourself so that you can learn about your unique physical set-up. With theory and practical application, you will leave this workshop knowing more about your individual body structure, and will have experienced how to adapt your movement to suit how your body is built, and what it needs and truly benefits from.

With an understanding of functional anatomy and adaptive movement, you deepen your awareness of feeling instead of thinking, and you learn to work with your body, not against it, by adapting poses and movement to suit YOU. This gives you access to the healing and freeing benefits of functional yoga.

Meet your teacher

Claire is a Functional Yoga and Self-Care coach. Originally a Hatha-Flow Yoga teacher, she moved into the field of functional and adaptive application of Yoga and movement with the study of Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Mindfulness. She specialises in the therapeutic application of these practices, helping practitioners better understand their unique physical structure, habitual patterns and movement tendencies in order to improve posture, mobility, the healing process and overall body awareness. As part of her method, she explores underlying mental and emotional patterns that might be causing a disconnect, and helps practitioners to bring mind and body back into balance.
